When do we do it?
Self-evaluation can be carried out either at any point during the activity or after it has finished.
- It is important that times for self evaluation are agreed in advance, and are clearly set out and understood by those involved. For example, after each term, or half-yearly or annually, for a service; or an important milestones in the life of a project, when specific targets or goals should be reached. This will be particularly important when CLD support is at a distance, rather than where there is ongoing contact.
- It can be useful to carry out self-evaluation at quite an early stage in a project, so as to embed the results in future project planning, and to catch any problems.
- Self-evaluation can also be part of an exit strategy.
