How do we do it?

8-Step Process for Self Evaluation

Self-evaluation is a core part of our CLD work, and should be built into the normal practice of each worker. When it’s time to undertake self evaluation, the following 8 steps should help (click on each step for more detail):

STEP 1: SCOPE THE AREA(S) AND ASPECTS OF ACTIVITY TO BE SELF-EVALUATED
These may already have been agreed at an earlier planning stage, but just in case…

STEP 2: AGREE CRITERIA ON WHICH TO SELF-EVALUATE
Sometimes one or more specific aspects, or ‘indicators’, of activity are chosen for self-evaluation – for example: ‘celebrating achievement’, or ‘staffing and resources’ or ‘partnership working’.

STEP 3: DEVELOP A SET OF SELF-EVALUATION QUESTIONS TO ASK

STEP 4: GATHER EXISTING EVIDENCE THAT CAN HELP ANSWER YOUR SELF-EVALUATION QUESTIONS

STEP 5: IDENTIFY ANY GAPS IN KNOWLEDGE AND FILL THEM BY ADDITIONAL EVALUATION FIELDWORK

STEP 6: DRAWING IT ALL TOGETHER: REVIEW ALL THE EVIDENCE AND HIGHLIGHT COMMON THEMES THAT HELP ANSWER YOUR SELF-EVALUATION QUESTIONS

STEP 7: RECORD AND SHARE THE RESULTS WITH ALL INVOLVED

STEP 8: ACT ON ANY AREAS IDENTIFIED FOR IMPROVEMENT
